Most of the time we are hangers on. It is hard not to be, these days.

we can be whatever we want, in our heads at least
or we can hang on to the delusion ;)

I like old phrases ("a stitch in time saves nine", e.g.), because I like to question their veracity. I came across one in a book the other day, a new one for me, and it is "hold wishes and dream in one hand and s### in the other, and see which one gets heavier faster." Something along those lines, anyway. Definitely the antidote to magical thinking here! Perhaps people don't like the pragmatism of this saying, which is why it is not around much.

i think people like to deal with reality....
(and we are speaking of ideals and reality here)
.... they like to deal with reality as an everyday thing to deal with
something that we do every day
without thinking, without looking
not something to get your hands dirty with

in a way we can come to have a concept
by which we do what we do and move on

we generate waste privately

how much reality is waste?
how much of it is wasted?

and what of our ideals?
what are they?

One of the reasons I like growing older is to watch how young people develop their realities. Or lack thereof. A lot has to do with the development of that prefontal lobe of the brain--the moral imperative part. But then I find sanity in my routines, so I can't judge them harshly.

interesting how you say hat they 'develop their realities'
i had thought that reality is what it is, but of course some are more ideal than others
ideals and realities blur in the end

for me there is no sanity in routines
they drive me crazy ;)

I have come to believe that reality is rather anecdotal. At least here in the USA, folks seem to travel on a parallet track to it, intersecting only as necessary as with...a recession, maybe? A double-dip recession, probably?
I am becoming such a cynic, and rather dark-hearted to boot.
In Europe, life just seems way more grounded.
But my routines! They make sure the critters get fed and my home remaines serene.
You'd loathe me in person!

reality for some is more of a nightmare than an anecdote
strangely, i choose not to believe in reality per se
i am not convinced
reality is something that we as human beings have constantly challenged.... and overcome
although, we are not allowed to voice this
probably because of the elitist view that the ideal is not for everyone.... perhaps for them, reality is a dependence on hired labour to do chores
so there are very different realities.... those who do more and those who do less of the less desirable and the more desirable things in life.

I would not say that europe is more grounded than usa.... people are more worldly wise, or at least they think they are, due to the media bombardment.... but i think it is grounded to live independently and remotely, with a greater degree of self sufficiency....
unfortunately someone owns everything but the air we breathe and it get increasingly expensive.... we depend on them for water.... they depend on us for.....
