the footsteps
making their way
throught empty streets
at night

if you look out
down through the window
you can see them
make thier way
down the empty streets
around the corner

if you keep your eyes
gently closed
you can see them too
and you tend to know
where they've been
and where they're going

who they are
and what they've been doing
they can walk into your dream
through the corridors
up steps
accross the floor upstairs

Mollie's Ribbons I grew up in a small town just a few dozen miles from the closest water source—a slowly shrinking aquifer that squatted underneath the seat of Thompson County, our neighborly border. Fortunately, we hadn't yet been quite as devastated by our annual droughts as those in Oklahoma and Texas.
